Why It's Sometimes Best to Buy Your Garden Shed or Office in Autumn or Winter

Most people think spring is the ideal time to buy a new garden shed, office, or outdoor building. After all, getting the order in early means you’ll have it ready by summer to enjoy in the best weather, right?

Well, not necessarily. At Preserved Timber Products (PTP), we believe there's a strong case for getting your order in during the cooler months, and here’s why.

1. Beat the Rush and Plan Ahead

We’re a small team at PTP, and high-quality craftsmanship takes time. Our standard lead time is around six weeks, but if you get your order in during autumn or winter, we can plan everything with care, ensuring your building is perfect for your garden. You'll have extra time to fine-tune your order, so everything fits your exact needs. And here's the kicker: we also offer pre-bookings, meaning you can order now and schedule the build for later in the winter or early spring if you're not quite ready yet.

2. Make the Most of the UK’s Best Weather

Although many assume summer has the best weather, in the UK, late spring often brings some of the finest conditions. If you place your order in the spring and wait for a summer installation, there’s a chance you’ll miss those sunny days while waiting for the build. By ordering in autumn or winter, you’ll have your new garden building up and ready to go as soon as those perfect days arrive.

3. Give Your Ground Time to Recover

If you’re installing a new garden building like a pagoda or sunroom, groundwork is often needed—whether it’s building a foundation, cutting up the lawn, or replacing an old structure. By completing this work in late winter or early spring, you give your garden time to reseed and recover in time for the best weather. This way, when summer hits, your outdoor space will be looking its very best, and you won’t be left with unsightly patches of grass or incomplete landscaping.

4. Shorter Turnaround Times

Ordering in autumn or winter also means shorter turnaround times. During peak periods, our lead times can extend due to increased demand, but in the quieter months, we can prioritise your project, ensuring faster delivery and installation. You'll also be higher up the queue, meaning you won’t have to wait long for your new garden building.

So, if you’re considering a new garden shed, office, pagoda, or sunroom, why wait until spring?
